Don Morrow

Varsity Head Coach
Don Morrow enters his 25th year as head coach of the Mustangs this season, having passed 225 victories in 2015 to close the gap on the prestigious 300 wins in a career. Known for instilling fierce camaraderie and team commitment, Coach Morrow was a three-sport star and all-CIF quarterback for the former Aviation High School where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife Roxanne. All three of their sons played for Mira Costa where Morrow is a chemistry teacher when not on the field. Morrow considers the development of character more important than skill, yet has still helped more than 30 former Mustangs reach all-CIF, including nine CIF “Players of the Year” and four of his former players have earned time with NFL or AFL professional teams.

Defensive Coordinator
Ray Lee has been Don Morrow’s defensive coordinator for all 25 years, working with him for the first time in 1992 when Coach Morrow led the South High Spartans to the Pioneer title. The following season they both moved to Mira Costa and led the mustangs to their first ever CIF championship. They followed that up with another eight tries at the title and won in 2009, 1997, and 1993. Coach Lee runs the security program at Mira Costa and frequently challenges Coach Morrow on the golf course.

Offensive Line
Chuck Arrasmith has been coaching the offensive line for 46 years and at least two generations of Mustang fathers and sons learned team discipline, dedication and the finer arts of the gridiron trenches from the former Vietnam serviceman. Coach Arrasmith if the former head athletic trainer and chair of the Mira Costa physical education program and his wife of 45 years, Jo Anne continues to teach PE at Manhattan Beach Middle School. Besides football, he has coached wrestling, volleyball, track and field and baseball, and has helped to produce dozens of all-league and all-CIF linemen including his fellow coach, Matt Baker.

Offensive Coordinator
This is Matt Baker’s 13th season with the Mustangs. He led the junior varsity to a perfect 10-0 record in 2014, winning the Bay League title, and was an all-league center under Coach Morrow for the Mustangs during the early 2000’s while anchoring the offensive line. Coach Baker helped his Mira Costa Varsity teams to two undefeated regular seasons and later played football for Harbor College in San Pedro before returning to the Mustangs to begin his coaching career.

Defensive Backs
Cameron Chow has been teaching English at Mira Costa for six years and is entering his third year as a varsity coach. He grew up in Provo, Utah and attended sports powerhouse Timpview High where he starred in both basketball and football before committing to play safety at Brigham Young University. He eventually gave up football to focus on his grades and maintain his academic scholarship, eventually moving to the University of Southern California, Coach Chow is the son of long-time NFL and collegiate coach Norm Chow, and he and his wife have two young children, Atticus and and Veda with a set of twins on the way.

Defensive Backs
This is Coach Dotson’s third year with the Varsity staff, after being the defensive backs and receiver’s coach for the freshman team. He’s now coached for 22 years, refereed youth sports for 17, and during his time away from the field, has put Los Angeles Police Department recruits through rigorous mental and physical training for the past two decades. A former football and track star for his alma mater St. Bernard’s in Playa Del Rey, Coach Dotson graduated from Cal State Northridge and he and his wife Ana have three children, Amy, Ashlee and Adrien.

Linebackers
This is Coach Dulgarian’s third season with the Varsity team and fourth season coaching Mira Costa football. The former St. Bernard HS head coach and all-area linebacker’s defensive schemes helped the junior varsity to give up less than a TD per game in route to an undefeated 2014 season. Coach Dulgarian is also the head coach for the Mira Costa Rugby team that has won 2 Southern California Championships in 4 years and finished 7th in the nation in 2016. The Mustang Rugby program is 36-5-1 since its inception.

Varsity Assistant Coach / Special Teams Coordinator
Josh Waybright begins his first season as an assistant coach under his mentor Coach Morrow. His first experience with football was as a 14 year old ninth grader being coached by Morrow and he has loved and studied the game ever since. A South Bay native, Coach Waybright attended elementary, middle and high school in the beach cities and continued his education and football career at Bute Community College where his team went undefeated both years he played. He's coached football for over 20 years and has returned to Mira Costa to guide players with his vast knowledge of football and to help guide the Mustangs to a great season. Welcome to the Mustang Family Coach!

Junior Varsity Head Coach
Brad Angeleri is focusing on the Junior Varsity team this year and brings many years of experience to this rising group of players. As a long time freshman assistant and Varsity running back coach, he’s helped introduce more than a thousand new players (and parents to the sport during his 23 years of coaching. When not coaching, he runs his own successful contracting business and enjoys beach volleyball and bike riding.

Junior Varsity Assistant Coach
Joe Ciprari grew up in Atlanta Georgia, attended University of North Carolina and has been a South bay resident for the past 30 years.

He has coached American Martyrs Flag Football for last 7 years and won 4 CYO championships. Over the last 3 years, American Martyrs School went 37-0 and Coach Cipari was awarded CYO coach of the year in 2017. He is very excited to be a part of Mira Costa Football and looks forward to contributing to a great program.

Junior Varsity Assistant Coach
Colin Kaiser is joining Mira Costa Football for his first season this fall. He will be assisting Coach Brenner with the Junior Varsity team on both offense and defense and is looking forward to getting to work with these rising Sophomores and Juniors. Colin grew up in Washington DC and played football for four years at Gonzaga College High School. He attended USC and now lives with his family in the South Bay.

Freshman Head Coach
Chuck Currier is a 1972 graduate of Mira Costa and, to him this school is the center of the universe. He is proud to have been a member of the 1970 Bay League Champion football team coached by Bill Cooper for whom our field is now named. Chuck began coaching at Mira Costa in the fall of 1973 later going on to Cal Lutheran and Long Beach State where he earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in economics. This will be Chuck’s 24th year teaching at Costa and his 31st season coaching for the Mustangs. His wife Susan is a teacher at Bishop Montgomery High School. Chick is a member of the Mira Costa Alumni Association Board of Directors and heads up the Mira Costa History Project, whose goal is to write a comprehensive history of Mira Costa from 1950 to the present.

Freshman Offensive Coordinator
Now in his 11th year as a Mira Costa football coach and fifth year as offensive coordinator, the former Aviation Falcon is gearing up for another strong season from the freshman Mustangs. Coach Wicks played baseball and football with fellow coaches Morrow and Angeleri and has spent his entire life in the South Bay, including 35 years working for the LAX Marriott. He earned his teaching degree for Cal State Long Beach and he and his wife Cyndi have two daughters and a son that attended Redondo Union High School. The Wicks are also proud grandparents.

Freshman Offensive Coordinator / Defensive Line
Andrew Brenner is in his second year with the Mustangs after graduating from Wingate University in North Carolina. Coach Brenner earned all-conference, all-area and all-CIF honors for his play on the offensive and defensive lines at Mira Costa, helping the Mustangs to their most recent CIF championship in 2009 as a senior. He played football for the El Camino Warriors for two seasons and was awarded a full scholarship to Wingate where he played offensive guard for two more. Besides coaching the offensive and defensive lines for the freshman squad this season, Coach Brenner also coaches shot put and discus for track and field.

Derrick Abell
Freshman Assistant Coach
Coach Derrick Abell attended Inglewood High School where he earned a football scholarship to Montana State University. He went on to earn a B.A. degree in Speech Communications and serve as a member of the school’s 1984 National Championship football team. Coach Abell returned to Los Angeles to pursue a career in law enforcement and in 1991 joined the Manhattan Beach Police Department. He has served the Manhattan Beach Community for over 25 years and currently serves at the rank of Police Captain. He spent many years teaching and mentoring young men while focusing on the development of the character and life skills needed for future success. He is married with two children and in his spare time enjoys camping with his family and riding his Harley Davidson. He also has an M.S. degree in Emergency Services Management from Trident University International and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

Head Athletic Trainer
Tim Cooper has served as athletic trainer for all Mira Costa sports for the past 28 years, evaluating and treating injuries, working with local doctors and helping to manage concussions and other sports injuries before the athletes return to the field. Tim specializes in both strength training and sports psychology, and is responsible for diagnosing, treating and helping supervise rehab for the athletes.

Videographer, Statistician & Spiritual Leader
Manhattan Beach Middle School humanities teacher Duke Winser has been assisting Mira Costa Football for many years in many ways. Duke primarily shoots video at practices and games, tabulates statistics and works with the coaches to get the athletes ready for the big game on Friday night. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Biola University in 1977, and then graduated from Talbot Seminary three years later. He and his wife Eloisa have seven children and four grandchildren between them.
