Don Morrow
VARSITY HEAD COACH
Coach Morrow enters his 32nd year as head coach of the Mira Costa Mustangs, having achieved over 300 wins in his career. Known for instilling fierce camaraderie and team commitment, Coach Morrow was a three-sport athlete and all-CIF quarterback for the former Aviation High School Falcons where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Roxanne. All three of their sons played for Mira Costa. Morrow considers the development of character more important than skill, yet has still helped more than 30 former Mustangs reach all-CIF, including ten CIF “Players of the Year” and five of his former players have earned time with the NFL and AFL teams.

Ray Lee
Defensive Coordinator
Coach Lee has worked with Coach Morrow since joining his staff at South Torrance High in ’92. Lee accompanied Morrow in 1993 for the first CIF title in Mira Costa History. They followed that with another nine tries at the title with victories in 1997, 1993, 2009 and most recently 2023. Coach Lee runs the security program at Mira Costa.

Arnold Dotson
Varsity Assistant Coach
This is Coach Dotson’s 10th year with the varsity coaching staff, after being the defensive coordinator for the freshman team. He’s now coached over 30 years, refereed for over 16 years and coached youth sports for over 20 years. He recently retired from the Los Angeles Police Department after 28 years of training LA’s finest. A former football and track star from St. Bernard’s in Playa del Rey, Coach Dotson graduated from Cal State Northridge. He and his late wife, Ana, have three children – Amy, Adrien and Ashlee (All Costa Alumni.) They also have 7 grandchildren, Ehlina, Alyce, Samuel, Sarai, Avery, Josiah and Brynn.

Jeff Michael
Varsity Assistant Coach
After a 24-year hiatus, Coach Michael is in his 4th year of coaching at Costa. His previous coaching was done at both the collegiate and high school levels with stops at Idaho State, University of Chicago, Western Washington and as a student assistant at University of Washington. He grew up in Bellevue, Washington and played football at Montana State and the University of Washington. A long snapper at Montana State, he played with Coach Derrick Abell on the school’s 1984 National Championship team. He is married to his wife, Julie, for the past 28 years and they have three sons.

Cassius “Cash” Pierce
Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Cash is in his 3rd year of Costa football as both the offensive coordinator and WR coach. He also assists players in their conditioning and weight training. Cash has been a big influence to athletes across the South Bay and greater Los Angeles area. His professional career includes working at the NFL Combine, Mamba Sports Academy, Unites States Tennis Association and Velocity Sport Performance where he specializes in strength, conditioning and speed development. He established Full Circle Athletics in January 2020, training athletes from middle school to high school through college.

Greg Holt
Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Holt begins his 4th season with the Mustangs as the Safeties coach. Coach Holt joined the staff last year after a 29-year Head Coaching tenure at West High in Torrance. Prior to his time at West, Coach Holt spent 10 seasons as an assistant coach at Long Beach State. While at CSULB, he enjoyed coaching with recently retired NFL coaches, John Fox (Denver Broncos) and Marvin Lewis (Cincinatti Bengals), and Mike Sheppard. In 1990, he had the pleasure of coaching with the late NFL Hall of Fame coach, George Allen. Greg is honored to be a member of Coach Morrow’s staff. He has always respected Coach Morrow, his staff and football organization. Coach Holt currently resides in Torrance with his high school sweetheart...his wonderful wife Linda.

Bill Fournell
JV Head Coach
Coach Fournell, was born and raised in Manhattan Beach. He played football with Coach “Donnie” Morrow at Aviation High School, earning “All Conference” honors. He then went on to play at El Camino College and Cal State Northridge, where he continued to excel. He is in his 4th season with the Mustang JV team and works with linebackers, defensive and offensive line and tight ends. Coach Fournell is recently retired from business consulting and marketing. He continues to live in Manhattan Beach with his wife, Grettel. They have four children, three daughters and a son, who all graduated from Mira Costa. He enjoys backpacking, road cycling, working out and is in his 21st year as an AYSO referee.

Ben Karp
JV Assistant Coach
This is Ben’s 7th season with the JV team. Ben is the co-Defensive Coordinator for the Mustangs, with special focus on the Cornerbacks and Safeties. Born and raised in Saugus, CA, Coach Karp brings a tremendous passion and energy both for the game itself, as well as for the teaching and mentoring of our athletes. He strives for our athletes to take ownership of themselves on and off the field through camaraderie, playing hard, and being a student of the game. Ben is a newlywed! 6/28/25. 5he and his beautiful wife, Zoie, live in Rancho Palos Verdes. Two of Coach’s kids are in University, while his youngest is a Junior at Costa. When he is not coaching our kids, he spends his time as owner and operator of several Skilled Nursing Facilities.

David Bugdanowitz
JV Assistant Coach
Coach Bugdanowitz is a proud Mira Costa alum, where he played linebacker and fullback and served as a team captain. While studying in college, he spent four seasons as the head coach at Vistamar High School, where he led the team to its first championship appearance in 12 years during his inaugural season. Deeply involved in the South Bay youth football community, Coach Bugdanowitz has coached numerous youth teams and plays a key role in running the successful and fast-growing Future Five Stars Football Camp each summer. He now brings his passion and experience back to Mira Costa as an assistant coach for both the JV and varsity teams.

Brad Angeleri
Frosh Head Coach
Coach Angeleri is returning back to Frosh Football since 2008. His over 30 years of experience has been instrumental in shaping young athletes. Brad also coaches the Mira Costa JV baseball team and for 24 years has developed dedication and discipline in all fields. When he is not coaching, he enjoys the beach, bike riding and spending time with his grandchildren, Levi and Lyla. He and Lori his wife live in Hermosa Beach and have been married for 43 years!

Frank Wicks
Frosh Assistant Coach
Now in his 22nd year of coaching Mira Costa Football and his 15th year as offensive coordinator, this former Aviation High School “Falcon” is gearing up for another strong season with the Freshman Mustangs. Coach Wicks shares his glory days of football and baseball with fellow coaches, Morrow and Angeleri and went on to graduate from Long Beach State with a degree in Liberal Arts and a multiple subject teaching credential. He has spent his entire life in the South Bay, including 44 years working for the LAX Marriott in guest services. He and his wife, Cyndi, have three children and two grandchildren.

Derrick Abell
Frosh Assistant Coach
Coach Abell comes to the program after 33 years in law enforcement with the Manhattan Beach Police Department, three of which were as Chief of Police. He began his career in law enforcement in 1988 with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department and moved to MBPD in 1999. Abell grew up in Inglewood, California and received a bachelor’s degree in speech communications and public relations from Montana State University. He also has a master’s degree in emergency services management from Trident International University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Coach Abell is known for successfully inspiring all Freshman football players through his motivational speeches, directness and his love of community and football. Coach Abell was quoted in the newspaper upon his retirement from the MBPD, “There is no greater calling than serving others before self, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to serve so many throughout my career; I look forward to paying it forward in the next chapter of my life.” We are so fortunate to have Mira Costa Football be a part of his next chapter.

Mike Freeman
Frosh Assistant Coach
Coach Freeman returns to Costa Frosh coaching staff after a 3-year haitus where he got married. He also returns to his alma mater, having played for Mira Costa Mustang varsity football in the 2008 season where Costa was Bay League Champions and a CIF Division finalist. Mike went onto to play football at Cal Poly SLO in 2009 –2014, earning a 3-year starting position and two conference championships as part of their offensive line. Currently, he lives in South Redondo and in his spare time, he sells real estate in the South Bay and greater Los Angeles areas.

George Felucta
Frosh Assistant Coach
Coach George Felactu is a South Bay native. He was an All-CIF First Team running back at Palos Verdes High School, where his team reached the CIF finals. He later returned as an assistant coach, serving as the Running Backs coach during the year Palos Verdes won the 2012 CIF Championship.
Coach Felactu went on to play Division 1 football at USC, where he had the privilege of playing under legendary College Football Hall of Fame Head Coach John Robinson and learning from Heisman Trophy winner Charles White. As a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with over 15 years of coaching experience, Coach Felactu is passionate about helping student athletes reach their full potential so they can excel not only in sports but more importantly in life. -
Brandon Molale
Frosh Assistant Coach
This is the first year coaching at the high school level for Coach Brandon Molale. Last year, he was the O Line coach for the Beach Cities Sharks Blue 13 Pop Warner team. Molale spent over 6 seasons before that as both a head coach and assistant coach with various BCS Flag Football teams. Brandon played football at Fresno State in the 90’s then continued on to be an assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Bulldogs for three years. He graduated from Clayton Valley High School in Concord, CA. Besides coaching, Molale has spent the past twenty-six years as both a stuntman and actor in Los Angeles. Brandon has one son, Bodie, who is a freshman on this year’s frosh team.

Franklin Ortiz
Head Athletic Trainer
Anyone who’s ever had an injured athlete will agree, Franklin is a blessing to all Costa Athletes! As a PT, DPT, OCS, Doctor of Physical Therapy with over 20 years of experience in healthcare and rehabilitation, including sports-specific rehabilitation, function design mobility, stability training, and post graduate advanced manual training, Franklin looks after our players with kindness, patience and love. He developed an interested in healthcare and sports physical therapy having played football, baseball, cross country, surfing and weight lifting throughout his own athletic career. He is passionate about helping people reach their exercise, fitness and sports goals. Franklin earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy and a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science at Loma Linda University. He is currently a Board-Certified Orthopedic Specialist, Emergency Medical responder for Sports Venues and our Head Trainer at Mira Costa HS.

Duke Winser
Videographer/ Statistician/ Spiritual Leader
Retired Manhattan Beach Middle School humanities teacher, Duke Winser has been assisting Mira Costa Football for many years in many ways. Duke primarily shoots video at the practices and games, tabulates statistics and works with the coaches to get the athletes ready for Friday Night Lights. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Biola University in 1977, and then graduated from Talbot Seminary three years later. He has four children and seven grandchildren.

Ruby DeRenzis
Team Manager
Ruby is a junior this year and this is her first year has team manager for the Mira Costa Mustang football team. She makes sure all the players are hydrated during games and practices and helps the trainers, Franklin and Ryan with injuries. Her knowledge of the game and love for football makes it easy to understand what the players need and how to help them. As an athlete herself, she says, “one of my favorite things about sports as always been the family that comes along with it and I am excited to now be a part of this one.”

Allison Crawford
Team Manager
Allison is a junior this year, and this is her first season as a team manager for the Mira Costa Mustang football team. As a team manager, she makes sure all the players stay hydrated during games and practices. She also assists the trainers, Franklin and Ryan, with injuries. Her knowledge of the game and understanding of what it takes to be an athlete drive her dedication to the team. As an athlete herself, she says, “I admire those who dedicate their time and energy to play a sport they love.”
